Hello everyone!Here in the Northeast US, the harvest season has begun and the long days of summer are starting to break their hold. This time of year, I turn to Wudan, who is the Urglaawe (UHR-glaw-vuh) version of Odin. I think of Urglaawe as "Heathery through the lens of the Pennsylvania Dutch." I've included Wudan in the Odin deck because he is different from Odin in the same way that Óðinn (Old Norse) seems different from Odin (Modern English). In fact, Urglaawe traditions generally differ from wider Scandinavian ones. Their traditions developed from Pennsylvania Dutch / Continental German oral folklore instead of the sagas and poetry of the Old Norse. In general, Urglaawe traditions tend to be more agricultural than courtly. For example, Wudan is less of a king and more a Seeker, concerned with the advancement of humanity. He brought forth the runes to help our spiritual evolution and tends to appear as a riddler. While not directly involved in the development of the cosmic order, Wudan did give the breath of life to people: the spark from which humanity's spiritual development is flamed.
